For quite some time, government organisations have been relying on a number of employment benefits to counter the perception that there is more money in private sector than in government. These have typically been flexible (and flex) working, work/life balance, additional superannuation and other benefits that are available under certain EBAs and workplace agreements. Additionally, the focus has been on job security and job stability.
As more and more private sector organisations adopt more flexible and life-friendly approaches to working and combine them with attractive salary and benefits packages, the potential difference in offerings between government and private sector organisations is starting to shrink.
The landscape has changed, and government organisations now need to clearly communicate why they are different, and why potential and existing employees should regard them as first choice employers.
In this discussion, Malcolm Peak will share some of his insights into what he sees as some of the key aspects government organisations need to adopt if they are to level the playing field and be seen as a first choice employer for the type of people they wish to recruit and retain.
